As you probably know, the legislature has gone far beyond simply taking away women's right to choose. It has even taken away their rights when they face one of the most difficult situations anyone can ever have to deal with, a situation most of us can't even begin to imagine. The anti-choice laws apply even to women who have been sexually assaulted, and even to girls who are the victims of incest. Words are inadequate to describe how offensive and disgusting that policy is. I believe it was pushed through the legislature by a small group of fanatics against the wishes of the vast majority of Texans, and one of my top priorities will be to bring the law into alignment with human rights and common sense. If there are any Republicans brave enough to buck their own party on the issue, I will be prepared to reach out across the aisle to them. If there are not, I will raise my voice and keep the issue in the public eye until the will of the people prevails.
